Rs 9 crore cash seized from car going from Bengaluru to Tamil Nadu, one held

The cash was found concealed inside a Kerala-registered car stopped near the BETL toll on Hosur Road.

In a joint operation, Bengaluru city police, in coordination with Income Tax officials, seized Rs 9 crore of unaccounted cash after intercepting a car allegedly transporting it from Bengaluru to Hosur in Tamil Nadu, police said on Friday.

A team from the Electronic City Police division carried out the operation following a tip-off from Jagadish, Deputy Director of Income Tax, Unit-22, Bengaluru. The Electronic City police stopped the vehicle at a signal on Hosur Road, shortly after the BETL toll, at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday.

According to police, a car bearing a Keralam registration number plate was travelling from Bengaluru, allegedly transporting the cash illegally.

Police brought the vehicle to the station and handed it over to Income Tax officials, along with the two occupants.

According to M Narayana, DCP Electronic City Division, a detailed inspection of the vehicle uncovered Rs 9 crore in cash concealed inside.

One of the detained individuals has been identified as Sachin, associated with Sindhu Jewellers based in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The Income Tax officials took him into custody for further questioning, he said.

I-T sleuths also conducted a search at the houses of the persons concerned in Tamil Nadu, during which Rs 1.3 crore in cash was reportedly recovered, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
